Read the case study on pages 119-121 in Effective Police Supervision and apply critical thinking to construct persuasive arguments as to what you would you do if you were Sergeant Lou Maynard.
Use the questions at the end of the case study to help you construct your persuasive essay and be sure to address the following:
Describe the motivational issues that exist with both officers in the case study. Utilize the motivational behavior theories discussed in Chapter 4.
Describe the basic need drives for each officer.
Assess your personal management style and explain how it can be used to improve motivation for each officer utilizing the theories of motivation discussed in Chapter 4.
Explain, if your level of formal education, or the education of the officers, would be an obstacle. Provide 2-3 examples.
