1. Connective tissues 2. Muscular tissues 3. Epithelial tissues 4. Nervous tissues Characteristics of Body Tissues. Epithelial tissues are protective tissues that form the outer lining of the body cavities, such lining of kidneys, liver, and heart. Also, they form the body’s outer covering in the form of skin. In this way, they make both the outer and inner lining of all the major body parts. Connective tissues serve to make a connection between different body parts. For instance, bones support muscles to form the body; in the same way, blood connects all parts of the body and ligaments, and tendons connect bones and muscles. Muscular tissues form the shape of the body and help in the movement of joints. Cardiac muscular tissues make up the heart, skeletal muscles make up the flesh, and smooth muscles make up the organs of various body systems (Biology 2015-2016).
