There are two steps to this assignment.
Work with the Data in a spreadsheet.
Interpret the Data in a Formal Business Report
Part 1 complete the attached excel spreadsheet with this information:
David, an outrigger canoe racer, needs to buy a new car. He wants a vehicle that will carry his disassembled boat and outrigger. At the same time, he will need to travel long distances on business. His passion is soft-top sports cars, but he is also concerned about gas mileage. In addition, he wants a vehicle that will last a long time and, of course, like most people he has a price limit. These six criteria are impossible to find in one vehicle.
David has the following choices:
Station wagon
SUV – with or without a sunroof (these are two separate options)
Four-door sedan, a high-miles-per-gallon family car
Sports car, convertible
He wants to consider the following criteria:
Price (Highest Priority)
Ability to carry cargo such as a canoe (Highest Priority)
Fuel efficiency (Second Highest Priority)
Comfort over long distances (Third Highest Priority)
Good looks and fun (Fifth Highest Priority)
Quality build/manufacturers reputation (Fouth Highest Priority)
In the excel file select the Sample One Tab and enter scores (1 = worst, 5 = best) in the Un-weighted Decision Matrix. As the information is entered it will automatically transfer to the Weighted Decision Matrix. The formulas in excel will calculate the score. Note the weights and feel free to change those.
Select the Sample Two Tab and change the weights. Assume David has received a very large promotion and money is not an issue for him. Make Price a low priority and Good Looks and Fun the highest. See how the scores change.
Write a Formal Business Memo to David. In this memo:
Interpret the data
Provide conclusions based on the data
Offer recommendations based on the data
This memo should include a separate title page, be well organized with headings, have an introduction and conclusion, have a separate page for references.
Part 2
After the information is entered into the excel file, the results are to be summarized in a formal business report.
