Each student will complete the assignment based on the assigned topic. The rubric and a template are posted in Canvas. Approach the topic as if you were generating a resource for other CNMs or WHNPs to learn about your topic. This is an overview of essential information in a bulleted format and is to be conveyed at the advanced practice level. This is not geared toward patient teaching, but is geared to the level of educating other APRNs about a topic. The assignment requires the development of a 10-15 minute professional PowerPoint that is at least 8 but no more than 15 slides recorded in Kaltura. Topics are assigned by faculty by the end of Module 1 of the course. Content Areas to be included: Fully-developed case scenario based on the assigned topic or disorder. Subjective Data: Includes pertinent patient information: age, race if pertinent, identified gender, Chief Complaint (CC), History of Present Illness (HPI); including presenting symptoms, review of pertinent systems; What are pertinent positives and negatives? Evaluation: Objective Data: Physical exam: Vital signs; BMI; How will you focus the physical assessment (which pertinent systems need assessed)? Are there special techniques or maneuvers? What are the pertinent positive and/or negative findings? Differential Diagnosis’ What are the top 3 differential diagnoses? Identify the primary diagnosis. Etiology/Pathophysiology/Incidence/Prevalence of final diagnosis Diagnostic studies: Identify specific diagnostics that you will order to support or refute your differential diagnoses. In other words, demonstrate how you arrived at your final diagnosis by various diagnostic testing. If there are gold standards or diagnostic studies identify those. Diagnostic testing can include: Laboratory Evaluation/Interpretation Imaging (if applicable) Screening tools Treatment: what is/are the recommended treatment (s)? If there are several options discuss how the APRN would choose which to try and how to progress through treatment options. Expected Outcome & Follow-up Needs: How often should the patient be followed? What would the APRN expect to see in follow-up if improving, if not improving, if developing side effects from treatment? When to collaborate, consult, or refer? Include Patient Education: what are the key points the APRN needs to teach the patient (disease related? Treatment related? Follow-up related? Prognosis?) References 3-4 current references (within the last 5 years). Recommend 1 Dynamed article. Last slide of the presentation, APA format Use current textbook as one reference if your topic is covered in the text.
