Write a research paper about an American colonist in the 1770s. You can be any type of colonist you wish. In your initial discussion post, state your colony/city, your occupation, and lifestyle (rich, poor, slave, etc.). Then, argue whether or not your imaginary colonist would have supported American Independence. Why or why not? Give at least one major issue that determined your position.
For the reply to a student, find someone from a different colony, a different occupation, and/or a different lifestyle. Either contribute to their decision on whether or not they joined the Revolution or argue against it from the perspective of your imaginary colonist. Your call. Just make sure you are adding to the discussion and not just writing I agree or I disagree.
Make sure to focus on your colonist and the issue(s) that had the greatest effect. You can use the textbook and/or outside sources. However, you need to cite all of your sources! Chapters 4 and 5 in the textbook will have the most information. However, you can begin reading ahead and find more good material in Chapter 6.
Do not just copy/paste something off the internet. Actually think about it and be creative. Copying or summarizing an internet source does nothing. I do not grade you on how ‘correct’ I think you are. Instead, I examine how well you argue your perspective and back it up.
