Consumer Health App Evaluation
Students will select and evaluate a mobile consumer health app used to assess or monitor health status or to track health-related activities. Students will give a 10 minute presentation of their evaluation in a live small group discussion and provide feedback on the presentations of others in their group.
Final report will be submitted in the form of a
brief scholarly essay (350-500 words). Reports are due before
the start of Week 5 live session.
Report should include:
1) A clear descriiption of the app, including its purpose, usage, intended audience, and potential benefits.
2)An evaluation of strengths and weaknesses, including (if applicable) reliability, accuracy, usability, accessibility, cost, and other relevant factors.
3)Nontrivial suggestions for nursing best practice. What advice or cautions might be provided to
patients considering the app? Is the app appropriate for all patients? What additional training or
resources (if any) would an APN require to effectively incorporate the app into a care plan?
