Note: This is NOT a political science essay. Although this is to some degree discussing politics, the main focus of the essay should be NEGOTIATIONS, but a background in political science is helpful for writing about this specific topic.
Subject: Negotiations
Topic: Negotiations around the recent police reforms in America, specifically as it relates to the murder of George Floyd. Please remain impartial and do not discuss personal opinions on the matter.
What to cover:
1. An overview of what both sides (Republicans and Democrats) want in their negotiations, where both sides can agree, and where both sides can not come to an agreement.
2. Negotiation strategies used by both sides; please provide examples for the following strategies used by either party:
a. Fighting groupthink (i.e. fighting popular opinion)
b. Being a contrarian
c. K.I.S.S. (Keep it simple, stupid)
d. Understanding the other sides interests
e. Determining what the BATNA (Best Alternative to Negotiated Agreement)
f. Ethics (which side was using ethics as a negotiating point)
