For all cases, each student/group must submit an ‘executive brief’ that summarizes their analysis and
recommendation for the case. Executive briefs will be graded by the criteria stated below:
1) Format: Points will be deducted for papers that are not consistent with the format instructions
and contains grammatical and spelling errors.
• Maximum 3 pages, single-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins.
• The first page must include a case title and your first and last name/group name.
2) Introduction: Overview of the situation and identification of key issues underlying the
problems identified in the case study.
• Define the key problem/issues to be addressed: In some cases, there will be several
different issues or problems. Decide which is the main concern of the case by
examining what most of the data talks about, the main problems facing the business,
and the conclusions at the end of the study.
• Outline the objectives or desirable outcomes (e.g., expansion into a new market,
response to a competitor’s marketing campaign, or a changing customer base)
3) Recommendation: Clearly state your choice for the best course of action. You should be able
to describe this in one or two sentences.
4) Key Conclusions: Summarize the bases (i.e., main reasons) of the recommendation. For each
conclusion, you must provide a clear and concise explanation of why you made this decision.
• Theoretical justification: Use the theories, models, etc. that you learned in class to
explain the rationale of your conclusion.
• Empirical justification: Present and analyze the key pieces of information within the
case that you used to derive the conclusions. You must avoid being descriiptive; instead,
you must be analytical.
5) Alternative Explanations: Provide a brief explanation of why other alternatives were not
selected.
6) Quantitative analyses, if applicable, can be appended to the write-up and will not be counted
toward the page limit. You must show the specific steps in your quantitative analysis.
