Contextualize a Poem Literary Analysis
Write an essay that sustains an extended argument on how a writer’s historical, cultural, or psychological environment influenced one of his or her poems.
Your contextualization should select a point of view from one of the following: psychology, science, society, or religion. In other words, what social events may have informed the writing of the poem? What significant events in society may have influenced the writer? What psychological theories may have informed the poet’s viewpoint? What religious or antireligious feelings might the poem express?
Be careful not to make unfounded assumptions about the poet or his or her poetry. Ensure that your argument is supportable via credible and valid criticism and the poetry itself.
Please make sure that your essay has a traditional college-level introduction that contains a very evident thesis statement and follows MLA guidelines. For additional details, please refer to the Midterm Paper Guidelines and Rubric document.
