The directions are as follows:
Most of the selections in Dohra Ahmad’s collection are based on the experience of the writer, but they read as fiction, that is, as literature. Yet, though these are literary texts they describe near indescribable experiences. For this assignment I want you to pick one of the selections we read from Ahmad’s collection and, in two paragraphs, and developed around a quotation, explain why this text could only work as literature, rather than say, a documentary or report. Why are the subject or first person narrator or possibly imaginative features of the text critical to the significance of the text and the experience it represents for posterity?
The files below are the selections from Dohra Ahmad’s collection that we have read in class. I apologize I couldn’t get them all in one file. Plese just make sure it’s two paragraphs and you include a quotation. Thank you!
