One way of developing the disposition and skills that make knowing students, their families, and their community more possible is through community mapping. Build their knowledge base about community geography, the economic base, housing, organizations, resources, history, culture, and individual people; Learn about community agencies so that they can make connections and recommendations for students and families; and Incorporate community information and resources in curriculum by taking students to the community and bringing resources and information into the classroom. By engaging in community mapping, teachers become community resources because they know more about the lives of students and the assets of the community.
