SOC217 Topic Choice #2: Case Management and Vulnerable Groups

Words: 690
Pages: 3
Subject: Uncategorized

The aspiring counselor can expect to treat people from vulnerable populations. Such populations include gang members, drug addicts, domestic abuse survivors, and many others. As the textbook and journal articles point out, there are often ethical issues about the way such groups are treated, and the way that their information is accessed and used. In this discussion, you will discuss the therapeutic approaches to such populations, while keeping in mind the ethical considerations involved in giving such groups adequate care.
Before beginning the discussion activity, please read these journal articles:

Respond to the following questions:
Specifically referencing the journal articles, what are three major ways in which vulnerable populations need to be treated more carefully than individuals who do not belong to vulnerable groups? Explain.
In the event that an individual to whom you are providing care gives highly personal, or incriminating information, what are the ethical considerations of dealing with such information?
How does the possibility of incriminating or highly personal information influence the way that mental health workers manage their cases? For example, what are the appropriate guidelines for including such information in a case file?
