Prospectus: Neuropsychological functioning in opioid use disorder
A common misconception to someone’s well being is that if they look okay that they in fact are
okay. While one’s outside appearance may be good to look at if we dig deeper and get to their
health it may show they are NOT as okay as one may have assumed. While many people have
their own opinions on drug addiction one thing is true, impairment to drugs can lead and have
psychological effects that may ot be obvious such as one driving drunk and swerving. While we
may go on about the various amounts of impairments and actions drugs may cause we will look
at one’s neuropsychological functioning in their own opioid use disorder period. We will look
closely at 2580 clients within 61 areas of studies for analysis in this research paper. (Copyright

Proven in the study the largest effect difference in neuropsychological performance was shown
in one’s complex psychomotor ability. Makes me wonder how many people are unable to drive
in America due to opioid use disorder. While impairment to driving may be a short term side
effect, while a long term effect of opioid use could cause structural brain abnormalities. From
brain scans showing white matter in one’s brain to one losing the ability to memorize day to day
things. From losing the ability to drive to losing the ability to see is real and can happen. It has
happened to clients outside of the study who have struggled with long term opioid use.
In studies, long term opioid use can cause underlying issues to major health issues down the
road. In this prospectus I will be diving into the various studies and research done on one’s brain
development or brain change to opioid usage. From the beginning stages to change to what can
3/4/2022
cause a permanent effect to one’s health and life while or after using opioids for long term
periods.
