Write an essay reflecting on one of the various topics that we’ve covered this block (LGBTQ/BLM/MeToo/Climate Change and describe what you believe to be the coscienza della tua generazione (Links to an external site.)and the revolution that you feel is coming to America, either now or in the future. Give examples for any of the covered topics or add ones that you feel that we’re missing, and use the theory of the counter Enlightenment ideals to establish your argument in a historical manner.
I am especially interested in your ideas as to how reason and belief might be reconciled or related to achieve the goals that you outline. What will be the role of technology? What will the role of human character play in achieving the ends of the revolution? What reasons for hope do you find?
In some ways, I am asking you to be like William Hazlitt perhaps (see link for “spirit of the age above), and select some specific individuals (could be some of the leaders of movements we’ve discussed in class-but you can add others that have influenced you) and describe how their achievements or arguments tend to represent what you see as the movement of thought/art/politics in the current time and what the possible outcomes might be.
