These would include various modes of corporal punishment, capital punishment, and forced labor or confinement.
Important: Develop your discussion around the purpose(s) which different types of punishment served. Consider symbolic as well as practical ends, and larger state concerns of social order and economic utility. Do not simply provide a catalogue of punishments.
