Suzanne is 9 years old in the 5th grade. She excels in mathematics and takes 7th grade math. She is bussed to the middle school for the last class period where she takes mathematics. She enjoys animals and talks about her laboratory at home. She is very talkative in class. She frequently tries to engage instructors in conversations about her own scientific interests and sometimes rushes through her assignments without fully reading directions. Her reading comprehension scores are just below the 4th grade level.
David is 12 years old in 7th grade and recently moved to the district. He doesn’t make eye contact when spoken to, and avoids verbal interactions. He sits quietly at his desk but doesn’t often pick up his pencil or complete assignments. He is often late to class and never hands in homework. You have noticed that he talks to other students in the halls and at lunch, but won’t talk in class. His records from his last school reveal that he successfully completed 6th grade with an 85 average, but failed all his courses in the first marking period of 7th grade before his move to your school.
