Compose a review of a documentary film, docuseries, or other reality-based film/video
content.
Prior to drafting your review, read at least 2 reviews of the film/series/content to get a
sense of the conversation surrounding it. Also consult course materials to help determine
what is significant in the doc/series. You are not required to cite the reviews or course
materials, but feel free to do so if they are relevant (remember reviews are popular text,
so engage with outside sources in a way that is easy to follow for readers). AT THE END
of your final draft, include a citation and link to the reviews
As part of your project, you will write a Vision Statement that does the following:
1) explains
what you chose to focus on and why
which ideas from our course materials helped you to make sense of your topic/focus
as well as how you approached it ( relate back to information from Stella Bruzzi’s philosophy on documentary film and how it can be redefined.)
how your focus & approach connect to and expands on our course topic –
contemporary documentary
2) reflects on
a. the process of planning & composing your short doc or review
b. what you gained awareness of, learned, or experienced during the process
(If you need any more information about course materials I will respond)
