• Write a personal essay connecting their own life experiences, and our class discussions surrounding privilege.
• The paper will be between 3 pages in 12 point Times New Roman, double spaced.
• You will identify multiple ways in which you are privileged/oppressed and how they relate to the access and/or safety you have to things in your life and/or how it differs to the experiences of those with a different level of privilege/oppression in that area.
o You must identify at least 2 different forms of privilege that you hold and 1 way in which you are marginalized. This means that each privilege/marginalization topic you choose to reflect on is at least 1 page of critical reflection.
o Think of more prevalently discussed forms such as race, gender/gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, etc.
o But also, think of less commonly discussed forms as religion, citizenship, monogamy, etc. that we have been mentioning throughout the semester
o Make sure you understand the privileges/oppressions you are choosing to write about. That means you may need to do additional research prior to writing this paper or contacting me to ensure you’re on the right track.
• Do not just identify where you hold privilege/oppression and then define it. As the professor, these definitions are already known to me. You should be critical in your reflection.
• This paper is reflective, so it should be written in first person and there will be no in-text citations or works cited page, as this is not a research paper.
