Then, using material from the films, the assigned article, your book, at least 2 other scientific sources, and your own perspective, answer all parts of the following questions in no more than 8 double-spaced pages: Over the last decade, there has been an increasing awareness of opioid dependence among the general public. Presсrіption drug abuse is sometimes called an epidemic or crisis. Given this occurrence please address the following questions: Why are opioid analgesics so widely used and, in some cases, abused? Discuss what you learned about the biopsychological processes that lead to drug dependence. How does drug use, such as opioid use, result in drug tolerance? Why do addicted individuals often continue to use a drug upon which they are dependent, even when they want to stop? What is the physiological basis for this based on what you know about why someone becomes dependent on a drug? Do you think learning plays a role in the continued use of opioids or other drugs upon which people can become dependent? Why or why not, and if so, give an example. Are there societal issues or issues with the pharmaceutical and/or medical industry that have contributed, in your opinion, to the opioid epidemic? Finally, what kinds of solutions can you imagine to combat the opioid epidemic? What types of approaches might be used to avoid a repeat of this type of situation with another drug in the future?
