Use nick lake “In darkness” For your culminating assignment, you are required to compare your supplementary reading novel with one text we have studied in class this year or other grade 12 level media relating to the ENG4U course. This will take the form of a comparison essay, of approximately 1200-1700 words, and an oral presentation with media.
Step 1 By may 18th 2022:
The Statement of Intent is a document that outlines the topic and scope of your essay. You will submit this to your teacher when you meet for a consultation toward the end of your reading. It should include:
An explanation of why you have chosen your topic.
A tentative thesis or at least an explanation of what you hope to prove in your essay.
An outline of the major points, which you will consider when writing your essay.
To guide your reflections on the literature you have chosen and your own reading strategies, below you will find a series of questions to help you think about various aspects of the text. For this assignment you will complete a series of journals totalling about 3-5 pages. The last part of your journal should be a paragraph or more of reflection responding to the prompts in question 9.
Your journal should be approximately three to five pages double-spaced.
This is a journal not a series of questions and answers.
Next step: A Blueprint is essentially your working thesis and your brainstorming put into a detailed plan of your essay. By this point in the course you have created a working thesis you believe you can work with for your essay. The working thesis states what you want to say to your readers for your purposes. It is a unified, logical statement that limits your gathering of material, for it states what ideas you are going to develop. You have brainstormed how you will support this thesis. You will have written details that develop the working thesis. This should result in main points that will be developed in paragraphs.
