Write an essay in which you analyze at least two poems from the same poet in service of a single thesis about the poets work. The first of these two poems should be one we discussed together in class; the second you must find and analyze on your own. You will also need to conduct extensive background research on your selected poet to help you in formulating an original thesis about the poet’s work. This biographical inquiry should inform your analysis above all other factors. Pay careful attention to the elements of poetrytheme, tone, voice, setting, language, and formin organizing your ideas and support. You need not, however, mention all of these elements in your essay, and perhaps only one or two.
