RESEARCH PAPER: FINAL ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Overview
Over 80% of Americans will be exposed to a traumatic event and experience significant distress due to a crisis or critical incident. A crisis typically involves a temporary loss of coping skills and causes significant impairment in nearly half of those exposed. Personal crises, such as death of a family member or loss of a job, impact the ability to function in everyday life and affect relationships with spouses, family, co-workers, friends, and church members. Crisis response and crisis counseling are designed to help individuals cope with the stress or event experienced and to mitigate the threat of posttraumatic stress, critical incident, stress, and personal crises on the individual. This assignment gives the student the information needed to develop a foundational understanding of crises and the step-by-step crisis response strategies to help individuals return to prior levels of functioning.
Instructions
Utilizing information presented in this course, as well as theoretical and practical elements from academic and Christian sources, you will compile an original research paper consisting of two primary parts:
1. A summary of your understanding of the nature and causes of trauma in general and
2. The detailed nature, effects, and crisis response strategy for immediate intervention for the specific type of trauma chosen (research paper topic). You must address factors necessary for successfully coping with the effects of trauma, and spiritual and professional approaches to treatment. of violence, however, women are the most affected by IVP, and men tend to perpetrate violence more than women (Ogbe et al., 2020). There is no discrimination in age, ethnicity, or social status for IVP to occur and the effects of IVP are not only centered on the victim but the effects of IVP also include family members with emphasis on the children. In the past 2 years, there has also been an increase in domestic violence because of COVID-19 and the issues surrounding this pandemic. With the help of today’s psychology and research, there are different interventions and strategies to help a client have a better mental health outcome and find networks of support for themselves and their family members.

What is Domestic Violence and Who Does it Effect?
Domestic violence is also called intimate partner violence (IPV). Intimate partner violence is a significant yet preventable public health problem that affects millions of women regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or educational background and effects the victim as well as the victim’s family members (The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 2021).

Domestic Violence During the COVID-19 Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant destruction in the United States due to quarantines, social isolations, travel restrictions, and stay-at-home orders which have led to

profound impacts on society leading to social, financial, and psychological repercussions. These trends have increased domestic violence in the family homes on a global scale.

Research and Interventions
Studies have been conducted to address IPV, social support, mental health outcomes, and quality of life along with interventions involving community-based advocacy programs and psychotherapy.

Conclusion
In conclusion, it is significant that anyone knowing of a woman in crisis due to domestic violence or IPV hear validated messages and know that they have options and resources available to them to help prompt them to seek help. As stated in Psalm 11:5, “The Lord tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence” (NIV Bible, 2017). It is very important for anyone abused to know that that abuse is not excusable, especially in the sight of the Lord.
