Part One: Genre Response 20 points
In your Rhetorical Analysis Paper, you analyzed the argument that one of the stories in Puerto Rico Strong was presenting about the U.S’ relationship to the island of Puerto Rico. You identified the author’s exigence and examined how your author set up their views. For this project, you are going to “engage in conversation” with this author or a character in the story you wrote about and ultimately take a position of your own. You are going respond to your author and add your own perspective to the critical discussion. You can discuss issues that come up in the story that relate to gender, age, culture, identity, etc. Your response will take the form of whatever genre you’d like, but when selecting the genre that you will use, be sure to consider all of the following:
Purpose: What are you attempting to communicate to your audience?
Audience: Who are you addressing and trying to convince?
Genre: How are you trying to convince your audience? Why is this the most effective form of communication for your audience?
What are your constraints and limitations in composing in this genre? How will you work around your constraints?
Below is a list of possible genres that you can use for your project, but this is not an exhaustive list, so if you choose to compose in a genre not listed, please consult me first.
