What to do in the concert report
The opera consists of three acts. Pick one of the six primary characters (Richard Nixon, Pat Nixon, Henry Kissinger, Mao Zedong, Chou Enlai, and Madame Mao) and see how the composer, John Adams (NOT the 2nd president of the United States!!), portrays the character throughout the entire opera.
*Don’t forget to address how the composer uses music to create an atmosphere that fit the historical context. It’ll enrich the content of your report.
A citation or quotation is NOT necessary. However, if you need to cite your sources and quote, please use the Chicago Manual of Style.
In your report, you must use a MINIMUM of ten (10) musical terminologies to describe what you heard and observed. Using the terminologies properly and accurately will help you earn a higher grade.
Ideas:
Your favorite, or least favorite, piece in the concert and why. Speak aesthetically…how did it make you feel?
Discuss the quality of the performance. For instance, when an orchestra plays outdoors, it effects many aspects of the performance including the sound quality. Describe how you feel; the heat, bugs, lighting, venue, etc…might have impacted this.
