INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN PLAN: DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT ASSIGNMENT
INSTRUCTIONS
The second part of your Instructional Design Plan will center on the Design and Development
phases of ADDIE. The Design phase requires the designer to formalize and identify specific
learning objectives, methods, materials, and delivery system(s). The Development phase
requires the designer to create the learning content and overall framework. However, for the
purpose of this assignment, the Development phase will only be prototype.
To complete the Design phase, we will follow the Instructional Design and Development Chart
outlined in our text (Larson & Lockee, 2014). For your Design and Development phases, you
will complete the following in one Word document with a separate Design section and
Development section.
For the Design section, use the below bullet points, or group bullet points into one when
applicable, as sub-headings (similar to how you formatted your Analysis section).
Identify desired knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs)
Identify and classify enabling outcomes
Prioritize outcomes
Determine relationships between outcomes
Sequence outcomes
Detail content
Develop assessments
Identify teaching/learning strategies
Select delivery systems and media/technologies
For the Development section of your plan, you will use the template provided on the next page.
Instead of using bullet points, or groups of bullet points, as sub-headings, you will complete the
template as an Instructional Design Plan prototype. The template is considered one slide (or
page) of a course, seminar, or training module. You are not required to have all the content
completed within the slide, but you can provide placeholders for how it should be designed. The
template will serve as your technology (i.e. LMS). This gives you, as a designer, the opportunity
to put together a prototype of what your final product should be. This prototype must give as
much information as possible so others can take and develop it within a technology-assisted
learning environment.
Assignment Note: When completing this assignment, consider the following Donovan Graham
(2009) quote: “when we understand that we are made in the image of a rational, thinking God,
we realize that we are thinking all the time. We can no longer allow ourselves to complain that
today’s students just do not know how to think. Thinking is woven into the fabric of our
existence.” How can you apply this idea of thinking in the design and development phases of
your instructional design plan?
EDUC 731
Your Instructional Design Plan: Design and Development Assignment must be formatted in
current APA style, include a title page, and follow the specific guidelines described above. The
Design section must be a minimum of 3–4 pages. The Development section must be a minimum
of 5 slides. Put both the Design and Development sections into one Word document when
submitting. Be sure to review the grading rubric to help improve the quality of your paper.
