You will engage in a dialogue with another individual focusing on cultural identity and experience. (NOTE: You will not be turning in a recording of your conversation; I want the summary after the fact. Your conversations should feasibly last 30 minutes or more). While there is no particular way you must go about this (I won’t be reviewing the conversations themselves), your project should highlight your experience, the experience of your conversation partner, similarities, differences, and your feelings about having the conversation as a whole. To get you started, you could consider discussing some of these questions: What sorts of cultural identities do I hold? When did I first realize I was (insert identity here)? How do my identities shape my daily experience? How do these identities intersect with one another to create my lived experience? How do I feel about this construction of my identities? How might my identities shape my worldview? What shifts my cultural world view/ understanding? How might these worldviews affect how we view society/ institutions/ the world?
As you and your partner discuss, take notes! Note how you feel in the process of the conversation, what sorts of things you’re feeling, thinking, doing, etc. Consider what it is like to share these responses with another. Ask your partner how they feel in the sharing. How might this conversation change how you go about your daily life/ interact with the world?
You will turn in to me 4000 words of critical and cultural writing in whatever form you like—as long as it is accessible. Y
