Directions for Final Autobiographical Human Development Essay
From one of the five specific age ranges identified below, choose a key experience that occurred during that stage of your development, which you believe had a significant impact on your development.
Infancy and Toddlerhood (age 0-2 years)
Early Childhood (age 2 – 6 years)
Middle Childhood (age 7 – 12 years)
Adolescence (age 13 – 19 years)
Early Adulthood (age 20 – 25 years)
For the age range selected, respond to the following:
Name the experience you will be describing, and state why you selected that experience as having had a significant impact on your overall development? Include this information in your introductory paragraph.
Write a minimum of one well-developed paragraph about your memory (or what others might have told you) of the experience, with as much detail as you would like to share with a reader.
In a minimum of one to two pages, describe how this experience affected you in one or more of the following areas: physically, cognitively, socially, and/or emotionally, both in the short term and in the long term.
In a minimum of two well-developed paragraphs, consider how your development might have been affected, had one or more of the following factors been different:
Your identified (self and/or by others) race/ethnicity
Your self-identified gender
Your physical abilities
Your physical and mental health
Your place/country of birth
Your family composition
Your family’s socioeconomics
Your parents’ level of education
Your birth order
The area in which you grew up
The schools you attended
Your religious beliefs and/or practices
Refer to the research or theories about which we have been discussing, and using the framework of your choice of the selected theories, explain your thinking about the effects of the experience described and the impacts of factors in your microcosm and macrocosm. Be sure to include an introduction and conclusion in your essay. To avoid plagiarism, use quotations, authors of references, and page numbers to indicate material taken from sources you are referencing. Include a separate page for references used. You may use APA or MLA guidelines for formatting your essay and for your references page(s).
In summary, your final product should include the following:
Identification information in the form of a title page (APA) or at the top of your paper (MLA),
An introduction,
One page describing the selected formative experience,
One to two pages describing physical, cognitive, and /or social-emotional short term and long term effects on your development, with references to research from human development frameworks and theorists we have studied in the course,
Minimum of two paragraphs describing how the same experience may have impacted you differently, if selected factors had been different for you,
A concluding paragraph, and
A References page.
