Write an argumentative proposal essay about the problem or issue you identified in Week One through your research question. This essay should propose a solution to the problem you discussed in your Expository Essay in a very detailed and well-researched argument. The essay must argue for a possible solution to the problem, your own plan to tackle the issues and support your community. Some examples of proposal writing could be the establishment of a tutoring center for single mothers or the development of an iPhone application to address depression in young adults.
You have to write a community project proposal that outlines the purpose and the reasons why your project is important. In this project you need to address a problem that is negatively affecting your community and propose a way to address it. Some of you have already done volunteer work and if you want to continue doing the same type of work, propose a new project that builds upon the one you worked on. How can you further contribute? What else do we need to do to help others?
This essay must have a total of 10 sources that are cited in the essay. You will be using (and citing) the research you conducted for your Annotated Bibliography. As your project develops, you may find that some of the sources you planned on using are not helpful anymore and that you have to keep researching. This is normal with research projects. If you didn’t before, you need to research organizations that are already doing the work in your city or around the country. Your project needs to mention those other organizations and initiatives while explaining why/how your project is going to further support and address those issues.
Your introduction paragraph should present the problem (prove that this is something that needs to be solved) and your thesis must state your proposed solution. You must use the word “should” in the thesis so that the essay is an argumentative proposal. The essay should be between 5 and 6 pages. Underline your thesis and all your topic sentences. This essay will target a scholarly audience (do not address your audience as “you”) and will not be written in the first person (unless you are using yourself as an example in a section of the essay)
