OVERVIEW:
This assignment is designed to do two primary things: It is intended to give you another opportunity to begin
exploring academic research. It is also intended to give you an opportunity to learn more about two different
research methodologies.
THE ASSIGNMENT:
For this assignment, you will need to find two academic research articles related to media—one using survey
research and one using content analysis. (Don’t be afraid to ask a librarian for assistance). Read both articles
carefully and address the following:
1. Provide a 3-5 paragraph summary of article ONE (Survey Research) to include:
1a. What was the main research question being addressed?
1b. What methodology was used (describe it by name and outline the steps taken)?
1c. What were the results?
2. Provide a 3-5 paragraph summary of article TWO (Content Analysis) to include:
2a. What was the main research question being addressed?
2b. What methodology was used (describe it by name and outline the steps taken)?
2c. What were the results?
3. Provide a 2-3 paragraph response discussing which of the two articles you found to be more compelling. Discuss
why you believe one to be more interesting than the other. Finally, discuss which article’s findings you believe to
be more important and why.
FORMATTING AND SUBMISSION GUILDELINES:
1. Follow APA style (see Canvas for links to helpful APA formatting sites)
o Include a Reference List with ALL sources used (again, be sure to use APA style)
o Use Times New Roman font
o Use 10-12 point type
o Have 1″ margins at the top, bottom, left, and right
2. Papers must be double-spaced
3. You must provide an:
o Online submission of completed paper, including cover page, reference page, and any other partsof
your paper (as ONE file) to the appropriate folder on Canvas. Do NOT email them to me or bring hard
copies to class.
4. Each section of your paper must include a numeric heading corresponding to the numbers listed above
