Mini Research Paper (Compare/Contrast Essay of 2 Scholarly Articles)[1] For this assignment, you will take the research and analysis you′ve been doing and write a short academic research paper. This essay will need to be at least 1300 words. It must be in an MLA or APA formatted document. You must use BOTH of the academic sources you used for your Journal Article Analysis assignments. You must directly quote and cite BOTH of your sources in your essay. You will need a introduction with a clear topic AND thesis. THESIS: Your thesis will explore the relationship(s) between similar or differing data or analysis or theories from your two articles. This can vary widely–so you may not figure out your thesis until you have analyzed and explored the two articles together. You will need an organized body for your essay with clear transitions between points. The body of the paper will consist of comparison and contrasting between your two sources to explore and develop the relationship between those sources. You will directly quote and cite the sources and then provide your analysis (some of this can be taken from your Journal Article Analysis assignments). And, you will need an accurate reference page. The type of argument or approach you take is up to you. I will be more concerned with the logic of your argument and analysis, the grammar of the writing, proper formatting and citation, and the quality of the research. For guidance on the basics of assembling the research paper itself, you can refer back to those chapters assigned in the textbook and owl.purdue: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/common_writing_assignments/research_papers/index.html (Links to an external site.) I strongly suggest you submit any drafts early for feedback from me. You can submit partial drafts for review or completed drafts in the assignment drop box. You can also always resubmit and overwrite your drafts. This is useful even if you just want to submit a draft in blackboard for safekeeping until you can finish it. —————————————————————————— The following is just a model of how you may wish to construct your paper. Logically, you may have as many body paragraphs as you wish or need–so the 6 paragraph construction is not absolute. UNDERLINE YOUR THESIS. (1 sentence) – Lastly, quickly summarize each article in 2-3 sentences. Paragraph 2: – Be sure to do the following in your second paragraph: – Start your paragraph off with a transitional phrase and a topic sentence. (1 sentence) – Then, identify and discuss ONE point of comparison OR contrast between the author’s views on the topic. Give specific examples from each article. Directly “quote” and cite the articles 1-2 times. Paragraph 3: – Be sure to do the following in your third paragraph: – Start your paragraph off with a transitional phrase and a topic sentence. (1 sentence) – Then, identify and discuss ONE OTHER point of comparison OR contrast between the author’s views on the topic. Give specific examples from each article. Directly “quote” and cite the articles 1-2 times. Paragraph 4: – Be sure to do the following in your fourth paragraph: – Start your paragraph off with a transitional phrase and a topic sentence. (1 sentence) – Then, identify and discuss ONE OTHER point of comparison OR contrast between the author’s views on the topic. Give specific examples from each article. Directly “quote” and cite the articles 1-2 times. Paragraph 5: – Be sure to do the following in your fifth paragraph: – Start your paragraph off with a transitional phrase and a topic sentence. (1 sentence) – Then, identify and discuss ONE ADDITIONAL point of comparison OR contrast between the author’s views on the topic. Give specific examples from each article.
