•Give an example of an external and internal stimuli and response. Can use internet for examples (remember to cite reference). •Give the scientific name of the isopod, using the correct formatting discussed in class. •Give the full classification of the isopod Starting with Domain and going down to the species level. •Mention the generally ecology of the isopod (e.g. habitat, food sources, lifespan, etc). •State your hypotheses for Experiment 2 and Experiment 3 (yes, you will need to have 2 hypotheses!). •You must cite your references used to get any information not considered to be common knowledge for the Introduction. Using scientific names of species: The first time you talk about an organism in a scientific document you give the common name, for example Pinto bean, and the full scientific name, for example Phaseolus vulgaris. Scientific names consist of a genus (Phaseolus) and a species name (Phaseolus vulgaris). Always capitalize the first letter of the genus name. When you talk about the organism again you can use an abbreviated version of the scientific name (P. vulgaris) or the common English word for the organism (Pinto bean). Scientific names and abbreviations must be italicized. Material and Methods: Page 3 •Start by stating where the isopods came from and how they were kept/stored before and during experimentation. •Since all students are doing Experiments 1 & 2 using identical methods, you don’t need to describe these and can say something like: “For Experiments One and Two, all procedures were performed as described in Carolina (580142A) Animal Behavior: Stimulus Response in Isopods, 2021”. •You do need to explain the materials and methods used for Experiment 3. •Do not list materials used. Rather, include any materials used in paragraph form. •Clearly describe your procedure for Experiment 3 in paragraph form, in detail, in past tense, so that it can be repeated by someone who did not participate in your expeirments. You need to describe all materials needed for your experiment, how many isopods were used, all the variables of the experiment, how your data was collected, # of trials, etc. Clearly define your independent and dependent variables for Experiment 3. Results: Page 4 •Paragraph form must be used, and it must be written in past tense. If you prefer, you can break the Results into 3 sections corresponding with your 3 experiments. Do not interpret your data in this section. Save interpretation for the Discussion. Simply state your results. •Experiment 1: Include a brief summary of the data and state whether or not isopods appeared to have a general preference for one side of the chamber over the other (i.e. chamber bias). No need to include any data tables or figures from Experiment 1. •Experiment 2: In paragraph form describe the spatial orientation of the isopods during the moisture experiments. Include a summary Table of all the class data (averaged) provided to you.
