(1) Shoreline Changes. Imagine that sea level rises by 25 centimeters in the next century. How far inland would the shoreline advance if the beach (a) consisted of a vertical cliff, (b) sloped steeply at a 45° angle, (c) sloped gently at a 5° angle, (d) were almost flat and rose only 1°? Sketch each option, and submit sketches of current and 100-year shoreline heights. Be sure to show calculations.
(2) Museum Visit. Visit local museum, which contains related material to the class, and write a 2-page summary of your visit. Be sure to include in your summary specific examples that correlate to class topics. Be sure to cite any references or museum location.
(3) Mining Activities. In a 2-page paper, give a brief description of how one of the following metals is mined. Additionally, what are the chemical and physical environmental effects of mining this mineral? Metal Choices: Gold, petroleum, copper, aluminum, lead, zinc, silver, nickel, uranium, iron.
(4) Environmental Laws. Research an environmental law (i.e. Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act), and report on its formation, ratification, impact, and give one example of it being violated, and what ramifications ensued as a result. Also, discuss how the environment has changed (better or worse) since the law’s enactment. 2-page minimum.
