Assignment: Playwriting Project
(Each play is worth 25 points)
You are to write two short (two – three pages) plays.
One play will be comic and one play will be tragic. Clearly identify which is which by labeling it on the page.
Each play is only allowed to have two characters.
Each play must take place in one location.
Identify a specific location.
Each play must be inspired by a picture or photograph that you show the class.
Students shall choose the top two entries in each category. A brief presentation shall be made in which the two finalists’ pieces shall be performed for the class in Reader’s Theatre Style. The winners of each category will receive an additional five points extra credit.
Plays are due on April 29.
Be consistent in the world and characters you create.
Identify a clear conflict that your characters must try to overcome.
Create clearly detailed characters. (You may use traditional stock character types).
Use language that is appropriate to the characters and the setting
