Part 1 of your annotated bibliography will require you to pick a topic from adolescent development that you would like to learn more about. You can review your reflections as a starting point. You will write a one-paragraph introduction for your annotated bibliography, including (and most importantly) your research question for this project. An example of an appropriate research question might be, “What is the relationship between community service involvement and academic achievement in high school aged adolescents?” You will also write about why the topic is important (e.g., why should we bother studying this topic? How could young people benefit from the information learned?) and how you plan to go about answering your research question (introduce a brief discussion of the articles you will later present in more detail). You may use (and probably should) your textbook as a source for this introduction.
Using the DC library databases in psychology (PSYCInfo and/or PSYCArticles), you will also find three empirical articles that you will use to answer your research question. Empirical articles are examples of original works of research in psychology. Empirical articles contain an introduction, method, results, and discussion section. Meta-analyses, narrative review, book review articles are NOT appropriate and will not count towards your minimum of three required research articles. You may use such articles as sources of information for your project, but again, they will not count towards your required minimum of three empirical articles. In total for your project four sources are required: three empirical articles plus one additional source (textbook recommended).
Please note that your research topic must be centered on adolescence (or emerging adulthood). Please make sure the participants in the articles you choose are not infants, children, adults, elderly people, etc. In this course, we are focused on learning about how adolescents develop.
You will type your one-paragraph introduction and submit it here. You will email me .PDF versions of your three research articles (full versions of the articles only). I will NOT accept any other format besides .PDF attachments to my email address (please do not send me links to articles).
