HED 204 – Final Paper Description
Assignment Submission
• This assignment will be submitted to me through blackboard. Make sure to check the assignment calendar for the assignment due date and time.
• There is a folder on your blackboard course page located in the same column as your quiz folder titled “Final Paper”
• After you read and understand the information within this presentation describing the assignment, create and write your assignment.
• After it is completed go to your folder titled “Final Paper” and click on the folder. Once you click on the folder you’ll see the assignment link. Click on the “assignment link.”
• Once you click on the assignment link, look for the icon (inside the checkered box, next to where it says Attach File) which says Browse My Computer. Click that icon and attach your assignment.
• Remember, all assignments must be submitted in PDF format.
Assignment Description
• This assignment is designed to allow each of you to demonstrate your knowledge of the 5 dimensions of wellness and how those dimensions relate to you and your own personal level of wellness.
• In this assignment you will analyze your own wellness, breaking down each dimension as it relates to you; then design a plan to address any deficiencies you may have identified.
• Some students prefer to use power point to help organize their assignment, but it can be completed using word. Just be sure to convert those to a pdf format prior to submission.
Assignment Format How will you analyze your own wellness?
• You will take each of the (5) dimensions and individually assess your wellness as it relates to each dimension.
• This will be achieved by creating various assessment categories for each dimension, assessing your level of wellness and assigning a letter grade based on your assessment to each assessment category.
• If you identify any deficiencies you will then design a plan to improve those deficiencies.
• Use bullet form as its used in the sample to help organize your project.
For Example – The Physical Dimension
• Nutrition – I possess a lot of knowledge about the nutrients and their value to the body and I try to
make sure to eat a diet which will allow my body to function at it’s maximum capacity. Rating “A-”
• Physical Fitness – I’ve gone from being a college athlete, to a very active adult, to an older adult
who has definitely neglected my body in terms of physical fitness and exercise. Rating “F”
• Drugs, Tobacco, Alcohol – I have a great deal of knowledge about the negative effects those items and am drug free, tobacco free and alcohol free (except for rare occasions like perhaps a wedding). Rating “A+”
• Physical Health Issues – I believe most of my health issues can be traced back to a lack of exercise and they consist of predominately joint pain (gout/arthritis). Rating” C+”
• Immune System – My immune system is excellent and I am rarely if ever sick, in my 30 years of teaching I have never missed a class due to illness. Rating “A+”
• Action Plan – I believe most of the joint pain can be traced back to my lack of exercise. Beyond the joint pain I am simply no longer very physically fit, so the implementation of a fitness plan is necessary in order to have a completely positive physical dimension.
Categories to Assess
The assessment categories I used to assess my physical dimension were just a few examples. You may choose to use some of those or create some assessment categories on your own.
Some examples of possible assessment categories for the Social and Intellectual dimensions might include:
Social Dimension:
• Peer Group
• Family
• Meeting New People
• New Social Situations
• Shyness
Intellectual Dimension:
Academic Success
Love of learning
Things which fascinate me?
Ability to Solve daily problems
What is my brain good and/or bad at.
Assessment
Once you have identified the assessment categories that you will use to assess your wellness in each of the (5) dimensions of health, then:
• Make sure to do an accurate an honest assessment.
• Really think about each category while analyzing your own individual wellness.
• Don’t just try and fill up space, really try and examine your own wellness based on the knowledge that you have gained from this course.
It is my hope is that this type of reflection will allow each of you will to gain some valuable information as it pertains to your own personal wellness.
Action Plan
• Again, really put some thought into how you can turn any negatives you’ve found within your wellness and turn them into positives.
• Who knows, you might actually want to try a few of your own action plans.
