In a very short article written late in his career, Bernard Lonergan relates power and authority to the knowing process and, especially, to the transcendental precepts. The most popular definition of authority makes it “legitimate power.” Lonergan tries to explain how power can become legitimate by means of following norms built into the knowing process.
In no more than two double-spaced pages, explain how Lonergan understands and relates power, authority, and the transcendental precepts. As your source, use only Lonergan’s “The Dialectic of Authority,” which I have made available in Blackboard. Read Lonergan’s article a few times and then explain his view of these matters. Do note use outside soucres. You need not say anything about the “dialectic” part of the article. Do not try to summarize the entire article.
