Presentation- (40% of your project grade) – “In the Shadow of the Banyan” by Vaddey Ratner
After you have completed your written assessment and research, you will compile what you have learned into a presentation for your classmates. Each of you will sign up for a presentation day in March. If you are unable to present on that day, you will score a zero for your presentation grade. A successful presentation will include the following:
Connections between the novel you read and at least two of the novels or plays that we have read together in this course (it can include summer reading books)
These incude- “Dawn” by Elie Weisel, “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood, “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini, “Between the World and me” by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Born a Crime: Stories From A South African Childhood by Trevor Noah
A creative visual aid in the form of a PowerPoint presentation or other artistic medium
A duration of at least 10 minutes and no longer than 15 minutes with an allowance of an additional 5 minutes for questions afterwards from the audience
Direct information from both your novel and from your sources
A works cited page
Information about what made you select this specific novel and culture to study
Maintains the interest level of the audience throughout the presentation
Stands up in front of the classroom and makes eye contact with the audience
Avoids any vocalized pauses or repetitious phrases that may be distracting
Thoughtful and knowledgeable responses to audience questions
