Write a brief introduction to the clinical topic, include all six (6) elements of a problem statement: clinical topic identification and significance (why is this clinical topic important or a problem?) and scope of the topic/problem (How big is this problem?); background on the topic (What do we know about the problem and why it deserves our attention?); consequences of the topic (data on mortality, morbidity and adverse effects); gap (what we don’t know about the topic or should know more about). Clearly state the purpose of the project in the form of your PICO question. IE: The purpose of this literature review is to review and report on the current evidence about xxx’ problem. Your writing should be clear, concise and formalized. This section should be supported with data as to the significance of the problem and it’s consequences…. so APA citations to support the statements of the problem/significance. Please see examples on Brightspace AND the capstone guidance document that outlines the specific sections of the Intro. Include the PICO and your refined Introduction section at the top when submitting

Methods & Results Section: Write a brief narrative paragraph of the number of articles found and how you narrowed down to the final 6 articles: which ones were included and which ones were excluded and why. There should be 6 articles described in your final sample. Include the names of the databases you searched, the limits you used (English language, years of publication, peer-reviewed), Inclusion and exclusion criteria (You will also upload a screen shot of your Lit Search as part of this section) This section should be no more than 1 page. GRADE BREAKDOWN Databases searched/used: (PubMed, CINAL etc…) 10% Limits used: (English language, years of publication, peer-reviewed) 10% Inclusion Criteria: (Sample size, demographics, study conducted) and Exclusion Criteria: (Sample size, demographics, controlled study) 20% Briefly describe the type of studies included- (You can either mention each article specifically or generally speaking- “one meta-analysis, two controlled studies… The meta analysis was included because of it’s large sample size..”) and the type of studies excluded and why (Generally speak about the articles that were not included- ie. multiple variables within the study, sample size, demographics) 20% APA Style: Final six articles in APA format – 10% Include the PICO, INTRO, METHODS & RESULT SECTIONS at the top of this section Instructions for Review of

Literature & Discussion section: Write your brief review of the six studies you have chosen. In this section you will synthesize the results of all six studies which means making comparisons and contrasts between the study results. You should be concentrating on findings in these studies, but certainly you can consider what in the methodologies of the different studies may have influenced similarities and/or differences you see in the study findings between studies. For example, even though the outcome measures are the same in two different studies, the samples for those studies may be different, or variations in the intervention may account for differences in results. The key to success in this section is to present your findings in a synthesized way, comparing and contrasting findings between like groups of studies in your sample. Remember in this ROL section, you are primarily comparing and contrasting results (what the researchers found), not methodologies. Then your last paragraph of this section should be the discussion section. In the discussion section you will summarize/interpret what was found after synthesizing the results of all the studies in your sample and 2-3 sentences of what you suggest the findings mean. The key for success in this section is that This section is your interpretation of what you found. What do you think it means? Is all the evidence in agreement? Is your research question answered by the studies you reviewed? What does this mean for nursing practice? See rubric for this section. Be clear and concise This section should be no more than 1.5 pages. Please see poster examples of this two sections to guide you. Include ALL PREVIOUS SECTIONS at the top

Implications for Nursing Practice- Take the discussion of the results of your six studies and decide why this is important to nursing. How should practice be changed or not changed according to your findings, include suggestions for areas of research, policy, and education as appropriate. Additionally, what are the limitations of the review (ie. small sample sizes, limited demographics or how studies conducted).
