Write a 3 – 4 page(800-1000 words) essay
taking two things and doing a direct compare/contrast of them, exploring
any similiarities/differences. The thesis should make it clear what you
are compare/contrasting and make some sort of statement about the
comparison. Also, ideally it should be evident what the points of
comparison are. An example would be this:
“Five Guys has advantages over McDonalds in terms of taste, portion sizes and quality of ingredients.”
When it comes to the body paragraphs,
you can either organize them using the alternating or block methods. The
alternating method is when you take each point of comparison and
compare/contrast the two subjects within each. The block method is when
you take each subject and explore all points of comparison within them.
It’s easier to use the alternating method, though.
The conclusion should reinforce the
thesis, summarize the findings and leave off with a final word. See
Chapter 7 of the course text for more details on how to write
Compare/Contrast essays.
