Completing this project allows students to demonstrate achievement of the following learning objectives and outcomes:
Define and properly use some principal specialized terms and concepts in the field of public finance,
Identify, categorize, evaluate and cite multiple information resources necessary to complete a project in the field of public finance,
Describe and summarize significant issues on key debates within the field of public finance,
Explain diverse perspectives on a contested issue and evaluate insights from a variety of evidence, and
Develop and justify a position on a public issue and relate the position to alternative views.
Public Policy Paper – Activities
You will complete this project by working individually to develop and justify a policy position in public finance and present results and recommendations in a written paper. Policy papers must adopt the following outline:
I. Introduction and Organization of Work
Highlights the topics the reader will encounter, the range of positions surrounding these topics, the policy position the paper advocates and the organization of the work.
II. Case Presentation
Factual summary and statement of issues present in public policy case study.
III. Case Analysis
This section provides an in-depth discussion of various policy positions and articulates the logic, assumptions and conclusions of differing policy perspectives.
IV. Development and Justification of Policy Position
This section offers the author’s recommended policy position, justifies this position, and relates this position to alternative views within the policy environment.
V. Summary and Conclusion
