When learning about promotion and advertising, sometimes the best way to truly develop a deeper understanding is by examining real-world examples in action! That’s why, for this lab, you will be venturing onto the internet, as well as other various advertising outlets around you (TV, radio, websites, billboards, etc.), to explore and analyze advertising and marketing techniques. You will gather information and examples of the various advertising and promotional tactics that you observe and organize all of it into a slideshow presentation that informs, educates, and evaluates three different advertisements and three promotions according to the following: Identify and explain the differences between indirect and direct marketing Describe each ad and promotion using the following criteria: Evaluate the design, the creativity of the design, and how the message is communicated. Did you find the communication and design to be compelling? Why or why not? Is being “compelling” important? Why or why not? How do all of these things help companies effectively reach customers? Address the role of positioning and target marketing in your answer. Demonstrate an understanding of product and institutional promotion: Identify what images, ideas, and various tactics each uses to express their promotion. What is the desired outcome of each promotion? How is this achieved? Describe and explain. (Be sure to address advertising, publicity/public relations, promotional sales, and e-commerce, as well as using product, services, images, and ideas in your response). Note: If the ads that you choose are not found online, you will need to take photos of them, audio recordings if they are from radio, or video if they are from TV, and insert these into your presentation.
