For your final reflection paper, I want you to consider the concepts of self-determination and ethnically homogenous nation-states. How did this ideology shape the human experience and conflict in the 20th century? For this paper, you can use examples and class sources read since the beginning of class until now, although you will need to provide a more recent example from the 1990s or later. The format for this essay is the same as the first: 1″ margins, 12-point font, roughly 500-700 words. For your source examples you will need to use three different types of sources, meaning you can`t use lecture notes for all your examples. You will want to use a mix of lecture notes, sources linked to Carmen and/or book(s); You must incorporate a firsthand account into an example (There are firsthand accounts for the Yugoslav Wars on Carmen as well as Rwanda in the Machete Season book). Provide three examples that are contextualized and support your argument. Do not spend half the essay defining the concept of ethnically homogenous nation-states as this will eat into your three distinct examples.
