TOPIC: Will the addition of soothing music to routine treatment in PACU patients result in reduced reported pain scores when compared to standard care alone?
Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to determine the effect soothing music has on pain scores in patients in the PACU during treatment.
The main concern for most of your patients coming out of anesthesia in your PACU is pain. You want to explore nursing interventions you can use on top of medication administration to decrease pain. One coworker mentions trying to make the PACU feel less clinical by playing soft music to relax patients.
P: PACU patients
I: soft music as an adjunct to standard care
C: standard care alone
O: lower reported pain scores
In PACU patients, will playing soft music in the PACU as an adjunct to standard care result in lower reported pain scores when compared to standard care alone?

APA 7th ed. for a PowerPoint presentation includes citing references in the body of the PowerPoint and on a reference page. This is similar to how you would cite a reference in a written APA assignment. Remember that a reference list only contains the references that are cited within the PowerPoint Presentation.
Group Assignment
The purpose of this project is for students to select a topic of clinical relevance, research the evidence, and critically appraise the selected evidence. Students will identify several (more than 3) sources of evidence, the highest level available, and provide a critical summary based on their critical review of their selected articles.
Students will self-select groups and topics but should share the topic with the faculty member.
Working in groups of 4-5:
Identify a research problem/question using the PICO(T) format.
Conduct a literature search to identify the best current evidence.
Identify levels of evidence represented (qualitative, quantitative, meta-analysis, meta-synthesis- should be the highest level of evidence).
Appraise/evaluate/critique the evidence.
Provide a statement of the science summary identifying commonalities and variations in practices and gaps in knowledge.
Recommend either a practice change or a continuation of current practice based on the evidence.
Design a plan to change or reinforce the recommended practice, including a way to evaluate the practice.
Work effectively as a member of the group utilizing the Learning Team Chapter provided in module 6.
Develop a voice-recorded PowerPoint to summarize and share your findings.
Use of APA 7th ed. for the presentation.
PICO(T) stands for:
Population/ Patient Problem: Who is your patient? (Disease or Health status, age, race, sex)
Intervention: What do you plan to do for the patient? (Specific tests, therapies, medications)
Comparison: What is the alternative to your plan? (I.e. No treatment, different types of
treatment, etc.)
Outcome: What outcome do you seek? (Fewer symptoms, no symptoms, full health, etc.)
Time: What is the time frame? (This element is not always included)
