Position Paper Guidelines
Your paper should consist of three parts:
Policy problem – clearly state the problem you will be discussing, why it is relevant and your position. ( one paragraph)
Evidence – what is the history of the problem? (is it a new problem or an old one that still has not been fixed). What is your supporting evidence? (use data, quotes, newspapers stories, interviews, etc..) How does each side of the debate frame the problem? (1-4 paragraphs)
Recommendations – what is your recommendation for change? Does the solution require a new policy, the removal of a policy, or just better implementation of an existing policy? (one paragraph)
Mechanical Guidelines:
1. Paper should be 3-6 paragraphs max. (1-2 pages)
2. Each section should be marked by proper headings. You should have at least one paragraph for each section listed above: Policy Problem, Evidence, and Recommendation.
3. Double space between sections.
4. Use 12 pitch font.
5. Cite all sources properly and include a work cited page.
6. Submit paper to Turnitin link on blackboard. Papers must be submitted by due date on blackboard link.
