Week 5 Discussion Board: Is Reparation a Moral Duty?
Topic:
Some moral standards, including the theory of deontology, assert that there are certain moral duties required of all rational beings. One of these duties is reparation, which requires that we make up for past harms we have caused others.
Assignment:
1. Review Chapter 10, pp. 331-336.
2. Write 100-200 words in response to the following questions:
Do you believe that making reparations for harming someone is a personal moral duty?
Do the U.S. government and/or corporate entities that benefited from slavery have a moral duty of reparation toward African American descendants of slaves?
3. Support your response by referring to concepts discussed in Chapter 10.
