While all HSPPs engage in important work that benefits society at large, no two HSPPs are the same. HSPPs have important identities that allow them to tap into their professional values, characteristics, backgrounds, aptitudes, and interests, much like professors have professional philosophies in which they explain their viewpoint on teaching and educational beliefs and practices. Because HSPPs are all so unique, knowing how to differentiate yourself among other HSPPs and understanding your specific HSPP ingredients can equip you with insight to direct yourself toward the sectors and positions for which you are most suited.
In this Assignment, you will define your identity as an HSPP.
To Prepare
Go to the Career Hub found in the Course Home Navigation. Follow the link there to access your Professional Portfolio. Look through what you have in your portfolio and review pieces that are relevant to your HSPP identity or the HSPP identity you have been developing.
By Day 7
Write a 1- to 2-page paper in which you define your identity as an HSPP. In your paper:
Explain your purpose as an HSPP.
Explain your personal and professional values as an HSPP.
Describe your personality/interpersonal style as an HSPP.
Explain how you plan to navigate your career as an HSPP in which you are a highly equipped generalist who is qualified to do many different careers within the field of human services. For example:
What does it mean to be a generalist?
What are the pros and cons of being able to enter into many different types of careers within the human services field?
How might you use being a generalist to your advantage?
On what area of practice do you plan to concentrate?
