Instructions
Previously you selected a topic and a chapter to focus on for your final signature assignment. Please review the chapter reading corresponding to the topic and write a 4-6 page paper in APA format answering the following questions. Please be sure to use musicology-related terms that you have learned in this course.
Describe the component elements (rhythm, dynamics, melody, harmony, tone, texture, and/or formal structure) of the type of music for the selected topic.
Identify the types of instruments, vocal techniques, and religious/ceremonial practices associated with the piece of music reflective of your selected topic.
Give one example of a musical selection within your topic of choice and identify the title, composer, approximate year of composition, and/or country of origin
Explain how the type of music you selected has universal characteristics similar to other types of music. Please offer details.
Give an example of how this type of music is relative to a specific culture and summarize how this type of music influences culture (i.e. the use in religious services, military ceremonies, political activism, social gatherings, etc.)
Describe ways in which the cultural context influences this type of music, including the type of language, nationalism, sociopolitical impact, socioeconomic status, geography, cultural isolation, multiculturalism, etc.
Please remember to include two additional scholarly sources (peer-reviewed journals or books) to support your writing. You will need to listen to any specific musical pieces reflected in the topic of your choice as this will assist you in understanding the depth and richness of the culture you have chosen. Most of this music is available on YouTube.

Important: You must use citations and references for your sources and format them in APA, (including the textbook), even if you are paraphrasing in your own words. As a friendly reminder, It is not sufficient to simply attach a reference list to the end of the paper. You must also include in-text citations in the body of the paper that correspond to your references. If you use exact information or copy and paste from an online source, you must use quotation marks and include a citation with a page number or paragraph number per APA.
