Asif, a property developer, is interested in buying Marchmont House, a large country estate with a cottage in the grounds. He intends to convert Marchmont House into an upmarket hotel and spa. Freehold title to Marchmont House is held by Henry. Asif’s solicitor makes enquiries and discovers the following:(a) Henry’s partner, Irene, is opposed to the sale. She says she owns half of Marchmont house because she had contributed half of the purchase price when Henry had purchased it.
