Social Problem & Policy Poster Assignment

The goal of this assignment is to help you develop your analytic skills and deepen your knowledge of a
particular social welfare policy. You will choose a social welfare policy from the list provided. Your poster
must include the following sections with these or similar subheadings:
1. The Social Problem Analysis:
The definition of the social problem the policy is addressing (explain the social problem)
The conditions that caused the problem
The extent of the problem (how big of a problem is it)
The characteristics of the population affected by the social problem (describe who is impacted by the
social problem)
The underlying ideology
2. The Social Policy Analysis:
General descriiption of the social welfare policy and program created based on the policy (if relevant)
Allocations-who is eligible to receive the benefits from this policy/program and what are the criteria
that determines who receives them?
Provisions-what are the specific provisions/benefits that people get i.e., cash, counseling or in-kind?
Service delivery-how are the benefits delivered; how do recipients get the benefits?
Financing-how are the benefits paid for, where does the money come from?
3. Effectiveness of the Policy
How effective has the policy been at addressing the social problem/s overtime?
What impact has it had on the target population?
4. Conclusion
Summarize your main points
5. References
Place at the bottom of poster or on another slide
Poster Guidelines
The poster should include 5 or more references which can be a combination of required readings and other
scholarly journal articles and/or book chapters. You may also use appropriate and reliable internet resources
(i.e., government documents, reports from research institutes or foundations).
In addition, your poster should be:
well-written in essay/paragraph form and not bulleted (bullets are only acceptable in the provisions
section if there are several provisions), organized and polished in presentation as well as content.
