Demonstrate your understanding of diverse classroom management practices based on a specific situation happening at a school. Data-based decision making impacts decisions that leaders and teachers make in regard to their curriculum and management practices. When assessing data, a variety of plans can be made to ensure the specific areas of need become a focus for instruction. In order to ensure students are effectively learning and can demonstrate competency in the areas, the classroom must be managed and organized in a way that no distractions impede learning. This week you are challenged to find assessment data related to your area of interest. For example, if you are interested in higher education, you might select to discuss entrance exam scores for admission or final grades for a specific course. If you are interested in K-12, you may select state scores related to mandated tests or individual school scores. Once you locate data, you need to review it thoroughly so that you understand it and could explain it to faculty or another appropriate audience (potential students, parents, school board members, advisory board members, to name a few examples). Next, develop an outline and/or notes on highlights of this data that you could share with the audience you have selected. These notes should address what you feel are important elements of the data and the importance of the application of the data. To complete the assignment: 1) Include the raw data, explanation, and highlights you feel are most important to address. Include a conclusion that helps the audience understand how this data relates to student achievement, school success, better instruction, or whatever purpose you feel the data can address. 2) Develop a plan/recommendations for instructional, assessment, and overall management changes that you think would improve the specific areas addressed from the data. 3) Provide a specific example of an assessment strategy, and a classroom management strategy for that grade level/student/or content area. 4) Include any changes/additions to discipline policy, rules, or expectations. Include a list of what/who you needed to consider when making these recommendations. Note: I am interested in K-12 education.
